2022.01.21 16:35 KateLearnsCode How to pass a string variable to as an attribute of an object (ConfigParser)

Hi!
so I want to pass one of the sections of my configparser to a class by choosing it as an argument from a commandline.
config = ConfigReader("./config.ini") c = config.yoga print(c)
this prints the section yoga, but this doesn't: y = "yoga" c = config.y print(c)
AttributeError: 'ConfigReader' object has no attribute 'y'
help please!

2022.01.21 16:35 beckishehehoho Difficulties getting an advisor/fellowship for Grad School?

Hi! I'm a recent grad whose been trying to snag some sort of fellowship or really just anything in Eco/Evo Bio. I was hoping to start this next Fall, but I've just been having a lot of trouble.
Basically, I feel like there's just no interest from professors I'm hoping to work under. The issue I keep running into is that I'll submit an application for a fellowship, but I won't hear anything back - and the deadline for the general app passes.
The professor I'm working for now recommended that I should wait to finish my program application until there's at least some expressed interest from the professors I've applied to work under, but I'm worried that I'm missing the boat with that method - I've barely gotten any responses, and pretty much all of my applications are past-due at this point :(.
Admittedly I'm not sure what to do - I don't think it's an experience/presentation issue. I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas for what to do next - is it even worth it to finish my applications, or should I just wait another yeatry to go for a Spring 2023 date?
Thanks in advance, and sorry if if this comes across as very inexperienced/sort of silly.

2022.01.21 16:35 Pressure_Jaded Me and my ex broke up 8months ago. (18/19/F/M)

It’s been 8months. For the first 5-6months or so she messaged me every month, and I ignored her, I didnt even read her messages. She stopped for two months and about 2weeks she messaged me again through social media, and I made sure she woudent noticed that I read the messages, and it said something along the lines of:
I’m happy, no longer insecure, i’ve been thinking about you alot more lately, I’ve had a cosmetic operation on my breasts (which was a thing she was incredibly insecure about and wanted done), that shes sorry for being extremely toxic and she now understanda, and that she wishes for me to stay safe and healthy.
Truth be told, whenever I’m ”in the mood” I think of her, and often otherwise I think of her, probably 30x a day, still.
I want to check if she messaged me again, and I want to stalk her instagram. It feels like I’ve made 0 progress on this breakup. I promised myself never to talk to her again but I want to, terribly.

2022.01.21 16:35 WhistleJesus Adrift

“Turning the radio-dishes 5.42 degrees north,” Gamma rumbled to herself, typing what she rumbled into her logbook on her computer.
Radio telescope scanning was in progress like clockwork. Every night when the airplanes had grounded, the night sky would be clear of electromagnetic pollution. Pollution of any sorts was quite common on this world, it seemed like second nature to Thetans to pollute. They certainly never gave any second thought to it. Activists would speak out on its effects on our world, especially the detrimental effects on the ecosystem. However, no one listened. No one cared.
“Found anything interesting?” Xi said from behind Gamma.
“Huh? Is that you Xi?” said Gamma, surprised.
“Did I spook ya?”
“Sorry, I was just lost in thoughts. I have been at this for hours at end. Nothing anomalous to report… as always,” she said.
“You know, you don’t have to be at your station the whole night. I certainly am not. The computer program works quite well on its own. I check on my computer just once every couple of hours, to check if the computer picked anything up.”
“That’s just not how I like to do it… There is just something about the repetitiveness of the job. It just makes me delve deep into my thoughts and fantasize about all these amazing worlds. I mean, I just love imagining alien worlds with all sorts of possible alien life… even intelligent alien life,” The last bit of what Gamma said, made Xi laugh loudly.
“Intelligent alien life,” Xi mimicked. “Hah! There’s no such thing, and you know that perfectly well!” Xi said amused. “I mean, we are clearly in the middle of our universe. There is nothing in our small galaxy, but us, and there is no other galaxy but ours. This small galaxy is all there is in our universe.” He explained.
“I know,” Gamma acknowledged. “I just wish there were. How wonderful that would be,” Gamma said with a sparkle in her eye.
“Well,” Xi said as he checked his clock, bored of the conversation already. “It’s been about an hour or so since I last checked my computer. I’ll be back in the office television room in,” he checked his clock again. “Five minutes,” he said, then laughed and left for his cubicle, which was only a couple cubicles away from Gamma’s.
Gamma looked back at her computer screen, which showed the output of the five out of thirty radio dishes in her area that she had control of. A steady stream of static was flowing across the screen, with the occasional spike whenever the dishes pointed at a star.
“Holy shit! Gamma, look at this!”
Silence was the only thing she ever heard coming from his cubicle. Never did he sound so excited about anything. Well, during the 10 years they have been working at this place, she certainly never heard such. Gamma walked over to his cubicle and peered at the computer screen, over Xi’s shoulder.
"What am I looking at, Xi?" Gamma asked with a frown on her face.
“Well… it’s… a signal of sorts… I do not know, but it is peculiar. Very peculiar!” He yelled, with a bit of spit landing on his screen. He took a sharp, sudden breath, as if he realized, he would have a panic attack if he did not calm down. “There is a signal originating from a fast-moving source, coming from near Gaia orbit… coming from space around our planet!” He said quickly.
“That can’t be possible. We don’t have that technology yet.” Gamma said silently.
“Well, we must have, or some other nation. The damn Persians must have developed space technology in dark! They have always attempted to compete with our level of technology. They must have outdone us this time.”
There were a few seconds of silence, then Gamma had a clever idea. “Xi what if you use our perimeter radio dishes and use them to triangulate the signal, to ascertain the position, speed and then trajectory of the Persian spacecraft.”
“On it. We already have the scripts for it in our database. I just have to download it, then there should be no problem triangulating,” he said, sounding just as excited as a 5-year-old Thetan that had just been taught that Gaia was at the center of our universe.
“Just two seconds and we should be able to see the trajectory.” A progress bar popped up on the screen and quickly finished. A diagram popped up on the screen, showing Gaia in 3D, with a red outline of the trajectory the object was following, as well as a dotted line, predicting the path the object would take. “Oh no,” Xi said, covering his mouth with his hands. “It is going to crash into the capital!”
-------------------------------
Ralph was a physics student, on his way to his family on his home planet in Alpha Centauri, to spend his summer vacation. He had had a long and stressful semester and longed for nothing more than a stroll with his old father and family dog, in the peaceful man-made forests on his home planet. His home had been terraformed a hundred years previously, and the nature had been carved to absolute perfection. Valleys so perfect, you could sit and admire the view for hours on end. As if they were carved by the hand of God himself – Truly a testament to human technology and creativity. An explosion shook the starship Ralph was on and vented the entire starboard side of the ship, springling the stars with vented humans. Luckily, Ralph was located at the port of the ship.
“Critical damage!” Came through the intercom on the spacecraft. “Passengers, please evacuate in your nearest escape pod.”
As luck would have it, Ralph already was next to an escape pod, entirely by accident. The intercom message had come, while he was on his daily stroll around the perimeter hallways. Ralph entered the escape pod, closed the hatch, and pressed a big red button that shot out belts that wrapped around Ralph, and secured him to the pod. Soon after, small rockets roared beneath the pod and quickly accelerated Ralph out of the starship. Although the pod did not accelerate fast enough to make him faint. As he flew away, he could see the entirety of the starship, including a massive hole on the starboard side of the starship. A hole that only an asteroid or missile could form. He did not have enough time to ponder the cause of it: A cryogenic fluid rapidly filled the pod. Just as the pod filled up with cryogenic fluid and Ralph put to sleep, the starship blew up.
Ralph was adrift. No rescue ever came for Ralph, even though the pod’s beacons had been screaming away ever since its escape. Nothing but silence for the ship and Ralph. The pod wandered the voids of space for an eternity. The ship slung around planets and stars and moved ever so fast. Moved from one galaxy to the next. Lost in space for longer than the computers on the pod could count. The ship still had power in it, but the inbuilt program on the ship simply could not not store the number of years in the allocated 64-bit memory. Then one day, the ship entered Gaia orbit and soon, entered the atmosphere. The pod was programmed to manage atmospheric reentry, so it deployed heatshields from the side of the pod, which wrapped the entire underside of the pod with a protective material. The pod shook as it came deeper into the atmosphere and plasma roared at its sides. The pod slowed. Slowed down enough for the pod to recognize the possibility of deploying parachutes. MALFUNCTION: MEMORY OVERLOAD. REBOOTING. The pod was asleep. Asleep for the first time in an eternity. The ship continued to plummet toward the surface. The pod pierced upper atmospheric clouds and continued toward the lower atmospheric clouds. Finally, as the pod entered the lowest clouds, it was awake again. Parachutes deployed and once again shook the pod. The pod came out of the cloud and revealed amazing cities below it, with countless skyscrapers reaching for the clouds. An entirely alien city was bustling below. The parachutes did not slow down the pod fast enough and would hit the surface if nothing were done. The pod decided to rid itself of its heatshields and parachute and calculated the adequate time to perform a suicide burn.
DEPLOYING LANDING LEGS. 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… ENGINE IGNITION. The engines roared once again and rapidly slowed the ships. 500 METERS TO THE SURFACE. The pod was headed straight into a skyscraper. RECALCULATING. The ship quickly turned away from the skyscraper and instead of hitting it, it would go diagonally between skyscrapers. As the pod went between the skyscrapers, the sonic intensity of the engines ruptured the windows of the skyscrapers, throwing glass shards down toward the busy streets below. The pod neared the surface, aligned itself with the surface and landed. ENGINE CUTOFF. The pod came to a complete stop in the middle of an intersection and creaked as the ship cooled down. Cryogenic fluid spilled from Ralph’s cabin onto the streets of the alien city. The hatch opened with a hiss and steam exited the vehicle. Ralph, slick in cryogenic fluid, stepped out of his pod, blinded by the intensity of the midday sun. Slowly his eyes readjusted to the intense light.
“My god… Where… Where am I?” Ralph did not know where he was, however, it was clear to him, he was in an alien city – In the middle of it, it seemed. With countless aliens standing in a circle around him, staring at him. These aliens looked like enlarged humans, although clearly, they were not. Towering at 2.5 meters, with skin so pale, it could be mistaken for vanilla ice cream. The aliens’ eyes were larger too and their irises covered their entire eyes.

2022.01.21 16:35 s-ro_mojosa How do I make VICE's c1541 Extract All Files From the Disk Image?

I find VICE's c1541 command to be complex and less than intuitive. I'm trying to extract all files from a .d64 disk image. I've done this before but I can't seem to remember how. I tried looking through the online manual but struck out.
The closest I can find is this very nice Codebase 64 article on how to put programs onto a disk image. That's useful for later but not helpful now.

2022.01.21 16:35 Krakanakis Possible career move to Automation tester, not sure if ready to make the move

I am currently working at a company as a functional tester for about a year and it was my first company working as a QA. I had the opportunity to learn a bit about the automation tool that this company uses which has no code and is developed by the company itself and have expressed interest in passing on to the automation team.
I have received an offer by another company that seems to be willing to hire QAs that are either proficient or willing to develop skills in Cypress/Nightwatch which I know are actually recognized skills in the workforce but I currently have no experience in it.
My current company has now made a counter offer to raise my wage (not enough to match the other offer) and said that they'd look into putting me in an automation testing team.
I am not sure if this is worth the career jump as I'd be on trial for 6 months again before being offered a permanent contract (which I have now) but at the same time I want to be as employable as possible.
Anyone care to share their perspective?

2022.01.21 16:35 AdoptingTheLolis Higuruma's domain can't get thwarted by Anti Domain Techniques.

People have been downplaying my GOAT 🐐 with all the talk saying that Simple Domain, HWB or FBE would demolish his domain.
There isn't any guaranteed hit to erase in his domain, you still need to go through the trial and you can't beat my GOAT's Ass during the trial even with the anti-domain techniques since violence is impossible inside it and these anti-domain techniques can't erase the rules of this kind of domain.
whatever guaranteed kill factor Hi-GOAT-ruma inputs in his domain is something that occurs when the Domain is already over. You can't be simple domain'ing that executioner's sword right?
Characters like Miwa or Reggie won't be able to do shit against it. Reggie stands a chance since he's a smart ass bih but the point still stands that he'll have to go through the trial. His HWB can't do shit against my GOAT's Domain, not a single fucking thing since I REPEAT... there's no guaranteed hit factor to neutralize so he will play by the rules embedded by the domain.
Therefore the only thing that can counter it is a STRONGER Domain Expansion like HOTCS, IF, MS, or COTIM. If you beat Forced Suicide Punishment in a domain tug of war then you can cancel that shit.
